Bringing in the New Year!!!

Lets get Excited People!!!!!

You all should see a new Release of Basic at the beginning of next week that will have some exciting changes.

First off a new release of Basic should be out next week. This release will have all the repository fixes, as well as, we will be replacing Cross-Over with our Electricity which is based off of Wine-Doors. This application will make it easy to run your Windows applications in Pioneer. To read more about the base of Electricity, Wine-Doors, you can check out their website at www.wine-doors.org. Electricity/Wine-Doors is going to be included in the distribution and be ready to use right out of the box.

As you can see there is a new poll based on which desktop environment of Linux that everyone is using. We here at Pioneer are trying to make the transfer from Windows to Linux as easy as possible, that is why are builds are currently using a KDE desktop. We are curious on what the community is wanting. We know that GNOME is very popular with the community and are still working on a GNOME desktop. There are also changes with with KDE that are taking place, as most of you know. KDE 4 is out and is said to replace KDE 3 at some point in the future. Please take the poll so we can get an idea of what people would like to see as far as a desktop environment.

With the changes in KDE we are wanting to alos know what you the community feels. We are interested on how the community feels about KDE 4, is there interest to keep KDE 3 around, or would you like to see both available for a while. Go to the forums at tapioneer.com to let us know or reply to my blog.

Watch the forums for the changes and new releases.

Lets Change the Subject a bit.

Many of you are familiar with the website lifehacker.com for those who are not familiar with the site i highly recommend checking it out. Its a daily stop on my web surfing schedule.

Lifehacker had a list of applications/websites that will help you with your new year resolutions. I am a fan of the new year resolutions and thought i would share the information.

Here is a quick summary i just want to give the credit of this information to lifehacker.com and the folks who posted the information.

www.fitday.com

Here you can set up a free account that is helpful to track your calories, carbs, fat, diet analysis, weight loss to name a few features.

www.wesabe.com

This is another great add on for firefox. It can also be linked to a Mac dashboard widget. This is a easy way to track all your financial accounts without logging into each individual website.

www.coolrunning.com

Coolrunning is a great website for those of you who would like to get into running and marathons.

I found this next link very interesting and helpful. If any of you are like me and have an addiction to your desktop/laptop this may help you grab ahold of your life again. I am not saying being a geek is bad but i timed my weekly computer usage and found the results a bit disgusting. We all get caught up in activities, school, and our jobs this will help you get grounded and make time for some of the important things that many of us neglect.
